How to find your Tax Calculations and Tax Year Overviews

Mortgage lenders will nearly alwas require your HMRC SA302 and Tax Year Overview to support and evidence your income, especially if you're self-employed. We understand that the HMRC website can be confusing, to help, we have put together a step by step guide.

Tax Calculations

Step by step on how to obtain SA302S (Tax Calculations)
  1. Log into your HMRC online account on: https://www.gov.uk/sa302-tax-calculation
  2. Select ‘Self Assessment’ (If you’re registered for Self Assessment only, you will be directed here automatically)
  3. Click on the link ‘More details about your Self Assessment and payments’
  4. Click on the link ‘Get SA302 Tax Calculations for tax year 20xx to 20xx’
  5. Click on the link ‘Continue to your SA302’
  6. Navigate to the bottom of the page
  7. Click on ‘Print your full calculation’
  8. Select ‘Save as PDF’
  9. Save to a memorable folder
  10. Return to the ‘Self Assessment’ page, navigate to ‘Previously filed returns’ and repeat the process for the necessary year(s)

Tax Year Overview

Step by step on how to obtain your tax year overview

You can obtain your Tax Year Overview from the HMRC website, this document will be required to verify that your SA302 information is correct. The Tax Year Overview is produced by HMRC follow a customer submitting their self-assessment tax return. It shows the amount of tax that is due to be paid directly to HMRC or the available amount for a refund for a given tax year.

  1. Repeat steps 1-3 from above
  2. Scroll down to ‘Previously filed returns’
  3. Click on ‘View your tax year overview’
  4. Select the necessary year(s)
  5. Click on ‘Print your tax year overview’
  6. Select ‘Save as PDF’
  7. Save to a memorable folder
