Home / Financial Advice Exeter
If you have buildings cover your property is covered, but what about the valuable items inside.
Contents insurance gives protection to anything that is not a fixed part of your home (those things are covered by your buildings insurance). It covers items such as clothing, furniture, electrical goods etc. It is advisable that any home owner or tenant have a contents policy in place.
It is common for certain items that you take away from the home to be covered such as a bicycle or the contents of a bag. Mobile phones, watches etc can be covered also. Many providers will now even cover your garden as if it is another room, so things like plants can be claimed for. The important thing is to check the policy so you know what is covered.
Items that are high in value, normally £1000 or more will often have to be listed separately on your contents policy and may incur an additional charge.

I’m very happy with my new plans…
"Neil was recommended through word of mouth. I wanted to make future financial plans for my children. Neil helped give me peace of mind and put in place plans for my family should anything happen to me. There is no question, Neil’s advice was second to none."
Contents insurance
Policies might cover you in the event of an injury in the home and perhaps legal liability if someone were injured in your home due to negligence or lack of upkeep of the property.
The most important thing to remember with contents insurance is not to be under insured. When our experts arrange your policy, they will be asked to define a sum assured - this will be the maximum your insurer will pay out. Under insuring may have drastic consequences.
If your home contents perished in a fire and had a value of £30,000 but you were only insured for £20,000 you would have a massive deficit. You need to ensure that when you calculate your home contents value that it is as accurate as possible.
